True to its mission to bolster learners’ career path, Lyceum of the Philippines – Davao conducted on Friday, October 30 via Zoom video conference the school’s biggest career orientation, the Meet & Treat, for Grade 12 students who are about to step foot on higher education.
With the tagline “Meeting Industry Practitioners and Treating Students’ Career Growth and Development”, students are challenged to make a decision to choose the college degree program they wish to pursue and know more about.
LPU-Davao invited future Lyceans, thus gathering schools all over Mindanao to witness the event flocked with the presence of some of the industry’s best practitioners from Health and Sciences Program, Business Management and Accountancy, and Tourism and Hospitality Management namely Dr. Kenny James Merin, Mr. Anthony Aldrin Santiago and Mr. Ramon Christian Larga for BS Pharmacy, Mr. Geromil Lara and Mr. Oliver Shane Dumaoal for BS Medical Technology, Dr. Shela Marie Yap-Virtudazo and Dr. Mirasol B. Tiu for Business Management and Accountancy, and Prof. Don Jae Bontia, Dr. Raffy Yroma, together with Chef John Mart C. Derla for Tourism and Hospitality Management.
“We will give you a glimpse of your career as we journey together,” Dr. Felipe G. Balingit, Jr., Vice President and Chief Academic Officer of LPU Davao stated as he formally opened the event and later on introduced the several notable personalities to speak for the event.
Additionally, Dr. Peter P. Laurel, President of LPU-Davao, highlighted the Laurelian experience – a special program sculpted by the school which encourages students to participate in extracurricular activities to enhance their experience.
Councilor Pilar C. Braga, the first keynote speaker who noted LPU as one of the most prestigious and excellent schools in the Philippines, embarked the Meet & Treat by asking students what they want to be and what influenced them in their choice of career.
“Choosing a career is a big, big activity, a big decision to make. You are making a path for your future,” she said.
Furthermore, Councilor Braga advised students to ask experts in case of confusion. She affirmed, “Your career guidance expert will help you make a very wise decision based on your personality, aptitude and others.”
Following Hon. Braga was Mr. Lanzi Borromeo, a content creator who promulgated an activity to the enjoyment and understanding of students, crafting realizations from the activity.
“In life we can all be correct, but what is right? It is easy to be correct, but it’s difficult to be right,” he expressed. He emphasized that if students want to pursue a goal, they must find one which is right and good.
He further deviated life as a process with three parts: the start, middle, and end, with the middle as the hardest part, where one falters and stands back up again. He gave an analogy of cooking pancit canton, a personal experience wherein he admittedly skipped the middle process. Hence, the idea that majority wants to skip the hard part, but if it is skipped, there is no visible growth.
Shortly after Mr. Borromeo’s lecture, students proceeded to breakout sessions for an in-depth discussion of their chosen program or degree of interest: BS Business Administration/BS Accountancy, BS Pharmacy, BS Hospitality Management/BS Tourism Management, and BS Medical Technology.
LPU-Davao’s recently concluded Meet & Treat pioneered students towards their future to be lived with LPU-Davao – an accepted invitation to take the lead
