In line with its mission of shaping leaders of the society, LPU Davao spearheaded the LPU Young Leaders’ Congress (LeadCon) at The Tent, Azuela Cove in Davao City last March 2, 2019. LeadCon also aims to provide a platform for young students from different schools a chance to collaborate in doing community development projects and develop camaraderie among each other.
The delegates of LeadCon are from the different Regions in Mindanao. The conference participants are made up of Grade 10 and Grade 12 student council officers and their advisers. Dr. Felipe G. Balingit, Jr, Vice President and Chief Academic Officer of LPU Davao, gave the opening remarks and welcomed the participants to the congress.
LeadCon invited speakers to inspire the participants to further develop their leadership potentials. Mr. Lanzi Borromeo spoke about how student leaders create a mark in the society and he challenged them to live a life of purpose. Mr. Dexter Buted Jr. shared his experiences as a student leader in LPU Batangas and how it prepared him to represent the Philippines in various leadership conferences in other countries as part of building an international community of future leaders. Atty. Reynold S. Beredo discussed his topic entitled “Breaking Free: How to Unleash the Leader in You. The students participated in the activities following the short discussion where in they were also given a chance to share their thoughts. Mr. Joseph Deligero, the Director for Administration of LPU Davao imparted his experience and knowledge with Community Development Project Building. The participants were also given a chance to represent Mindanao in the proposed Luzon leg of Young leaders’ Congress if their project proposal is chosen.
The first LeadCon has more than 500 participants and it looks forward to a bigger LeadCon in the years to come.
