“Leadership is the capacity to translate vision into reality” – Warren Bennis
Dr. FG Balingit Jr. is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Commerce, Class of 1972 at the University of Mindanao. He took his Master of Business Administration degree at the University of San Carlos and his Doctor of Philosophy in Technology Management at Cebu Technological University.
Dr. FGB, as he is fondly called, was an enthusiastic student who actively participated in so many activities when he was in college. In fact, he was a member of the College Thespians and College Glee Club. He was also an active member and officer of the Junior Philippine Institute of Accountants.
While in college he already showed his passion and ability to lead other people as he became the Model Company Commander of the ROTC Unit, Silver Blade Fraternity Commander, and ROTC Corps Commander. After college, he was an active
member of various organizations such as the Jasmin Jaycees in Makati, Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants where he is a sustaining life member, Rotary Club of Silang, Philippine Coffee Organization, and the Association of Philippine Accountancy Schools.
Dr. FGB has served in various positions in the government and private sectors. He was a management trainee at Philippine National Bank, Auditing Examiner in the Commission of Audit, Internal Auditor at Union Carbide Philippines, Inc., Manufacturing Plant Auditor and Management Auditor at Planters Products, Inc., Controller at Sucrex Marketing Corp. and Victor Shoe Corp., Accounting Manager at National Steel Corp., Senior Manager of J. Cunanan & Co./Price Waterhouse, Project Controller at Philippine Export and Foreign Loan Guarantee Corp., Vice President and CEO at Evrile Enterprises, Inc., Managing Director of Mendoza Group Management Corp., Secretary to the Sanggunian, Silang, Cavite, Vice President of Advanced Environmental Development Corp., and Vice President for Finance and Administration at Budget Builders Group of Companies.
In 1995, Dr. FGB brought his extensive experience in industry to bear in his work in the academe. He headed the Accountancy Program in DLSU and later chaired the Accountancy Department of the University of San Carlos. After seven years as faculty at USC, he was appointed Dean of the College of Business Administration in Adamson University. He went on and became Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy at Angeles University, Dean of the College of Accountancy at the University of the Cordilleras, Executive Director and Dean of College of the Far Eastern University – Cavite, Administrator of Tagaytay City College, and Dean of the College of Business and Accountancy at LPU Laguna.
Dr. FGB was also adjunct faculty at the graduate school of Southwestern University, Rogationist College, and the School of Business and Economics of the University of San Carlos.
Dr. FGB faced another challenging chapter in his life when he was appointed as the Vice President and Chief Academic Officer of the Lyceum of the Philippines – Davao. Nurturing a new campus in a new place with a different environment and market condition was indeed a tall order for the veteran of industry and academe. Dr. FGB faced the enormous responsibilities of helping top management craft and execute strategic plans and navigate the school towards achieving its mission and attaining goals in line with its corporate vision. He also has to deal with the responsibility of challenging faculty and staff to think outside the box and explore things they haven’t tried before, instilling belief in each team member that they are all leaders sharing in difficulty and in glory, and motivating them to greater performance heights. He has the responsibility of keeping an eye on the bigger picture, that of developing and maintaining a culture of excellence in LPU Davao. As they say, if you want to thrive and not just survive in the industry, you must always prepare for the future. This is the reason that a manager must always focus on not just the present but on the bigger picture, the future.
Despite the challenges, Dr. FGB, together with the members of the Management Council and with the inspiration and able leadership of Dr. Peter P. Laurel, and the support of the LPU community, has proven that his wide spectrum of working experiences in both industry and academe helped and will continue to help him in translating the vision of the LPU Davao Board of Trustees into reality
