Vision:

The leading Medical Technology Education Program in the region by 2024.

Mission

To produce globally competitive medical technologists who can apply scientific principles and techniques to the vital role that laboratory science plays in the healthcare system embraced with the ideals of Jose P. Laurel and instilled in the credo Truth and Fortitude (Veritas Et Fortitudo), For God and Country (Pro Deo Et Patria)

Program Description

The Bachelor of Science in Medical Technology (BSMT) is a four-year degree program consisting of three years of general education and professional courses and one-year clinical internship program. The program of study is designed to equip students the knowledge, technical skills, and professional attitude in the performance of clinical laboratory assays in aid of the proper diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases.

Program Learning Objectives

The main goal of the BSMT program is to produce globally competitive medical technologists who can apply scientific principles and techniques to the vital role that laboratory science plays in the healthcare system.

The program specifically aims to produce graduates that have the ability to:

  1. Demonstrate technical competence in the performance of clinical laboratory assays in aid of diagnosis, treatment, and management of diseases vis-Γ -vis biosafety and waste management;
  2. Demonstrate analytical and critical thinking skills in the workplace;
  3. Engage in the collection, analysis, and projection of health information for improving healthcare management system;
  4. Demonstrate inter-personal skills, leadership qualities, and ethical practice of the profession;
  5. Apply research skills in relevant areas of Medical Technology practice;
  6. Participate in community-oriented activities;
  7. Engage in life-long learning activities; and
  8. Demonstrate effective teaching and communication skills.

Career Opportunities

The following list represents positions held by Medical Technology graduates. It depicts the excellent opportunities and versatility afforded by a Medical Technology degree for positions not only in clinical laboratories, but also in industry, research, public health, government, information systems, reference (private) laboratories, and education.

  1. Clinical Laboratories (hospital or free-standing laboratories)
    • Phlebotomist: Obtains blood specimens through proper performing skin puncture and venipuncture.
    • Analyst: Analyzes laboratory assays utilizing precise instruments and equipment and a variety of advanced technology to determine the presence, extent, or absence disease in any of the following areas:
      • Clinical Chemistry
      • Endocrinology
      • Toxicology
      • Bacteriology
      • Parasitology

Other Information on the BSMT Program

  • The BS in Medical Technology curriculum in the Philippines is designed parallel to the curricula in countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, and Asian countries.
  • LPU-Davao is the only MedTech school in Davao Region to implement a trimestral curriculum, thus, lesser number of courses per term that would allow students to have more ample time to focus on the courses.
  • Classrooms are equipped with needed tools for effective and interactive instruction apart that all classrooms are with centralized air-condition system.
  • Science Laboratories are equipped with state-of-the-art instruments for more efficient laboratory test performance to include the installation of the Molecular Diagnostic Laboratory.
