Igniting hope and optimism, Lyceum of the Philippines-Davao rekindles the season with the lighting of the Christmas tree standing afoot the campus, to bring light to everyone during these trying times with the Virtual Christmas Tree Lighting event live on Facebook, Friday, November 6, 2020.
With the theme “Lighting up the Season with Hope, Peace, Love, and Joy,” LPU Davao displayed the essence of the Filipino tradition in celebrating the Christmas season: that amidst the circumstances we are into, we will never cease in celebrating the Yuletide season, as expressed by Mr. Don Jae Bontia.
“11 months ago today, we had the first Christmas tree lighting ceremony in LPU Davao,” Dr. Felipe G. Balingit Jr. connoted with delight. Having witnessed the historic event last year, Dr. Balingit graced the event with the presence of five of the members of the Board of Trustees. He added that hundreds more have joined this second lighting event, albeit virtually, in the comfort of their homes.
“This second lighting ceremony comes to you with the message of hope, peace, joy, and love. The LPU Davao Christmas tree is the same we have last year. It is the same tree that symbolizes optimism, our same collective belief that there is hope, that we will all rise above this pandemic stronger,” Dr. FGB proclaimed.
Henceforth, the event embarked with a trip down the memory lane of last year’s Christmas tree lighting, and the presentation of LPU Davao’s very own Belen and Christmas Station ID teaser. The symbols of Christmas were highlighted with a film of hope and love brought by the Junior College, and a video presentation of joy and peace brought by the College department.
Dr. Peter P. Laurel, school president, denoted all the way from Laguna the importance of conveying the deepest appreciation in the time of the pandemic—for everyone who have enkindled resilient hearts trying to draw the spirit of Christmas, particularly in lighting the Christmas tree.
“Nothing is more heartwarming than seeing and lighting a Christmas tree, a symbol of hope and optimism,” he uttered.
Upon lighting the Christmas tree, the event concluded with a Christmas medley sung by LPU Davao singers, featuring VC6 Philippines.
