With the intent of producing holistically developed individuals, LPU-Davao adapts the Laurel Program and embed it in the curricular programs offered starting next school year.

This program was introduced to LPU Davao by one of the Board of Trustees of LPU – Laguna, Mr. Christopher C. Torres during a symposium held last March 5, 2020.

The Laurel Program is a human-centered education that aims to target the whole totality of a person, that will improve experiential skills needed in the 4th industrial revolution (Industry 4.0)

It is a program that will record not just academic activities but with extracurricular and co-curricular activities that will soon help in the students’ future applications.

The said program aims to develop lifelong learning students that are capable to dwell in the ever changing society that the humanity lives in.

Furthermore, LPU Davao is planning to embed life skill modules in the current curriculum which includes, mindfulness, team dynamics, relationship management, and emotional well-being, using experiential classes.

“Learning to learn is a very important skill, and being able to learn (how) to learn for your entire life, I think would be a more source of success, ” Torres expressed.

He also emphasized about the program being focused on finding balance between academic and non-academic skills.

“I  wouldn’t say that it focuses more on the extracurricular activities, but what it does is, it enables a person to develop other skills, such as communication that they can use in any subject and any activity that they choose to embark on,” he added.

“If we can do it this coming academic year, this coming 2020, that will be ideal, hopefully we can (do it) implement it this coming academic year, ” LPU Davao Vice President, Dr. Felipe Balingit Jr., remarked during the symposium.

Junior College Supreme Student Council (JCSSC) President, Changhyun Park also expressed his thoughts about the program. “The time is changing, we should also grow as an individual, as a society, and this program may help us to improve”.
