LPU Davao Featured Employee of the Month: Chef Hannah Granado-Callao

Chef Hannah’s father is a CPA, together with her mom they established an Identification Card company. She has four other sisters, and she is the third child. Her mom was once a home baker, hence her love for baking came from her. As a child, she and her sister usually spend their summer break at their parents’ business and lend some help. Occasionally, they also helped their mom bake and decorate her orders. Little did they know that these experiences will greatly influence them as adults.  Chef Hannah and her two sisters together with their two cousins established a baking supply store, applying what they have learned when they were children.

She is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing and is still a registered nurse and have only practiced it for a few months then she changed career as a flight attendant for Cebu Pacific in Manila wherein she was based there for two years then decided to go back in Davao city. It was during her youngest sister’s debut when she decided to bake again and made her a cake and that’s where chef’s Hannah’s baking journey started.

After baking cake orders for friends and relatives she then realized that she was beginning to be stagnant and have not improved further skills, so she then decided to fly back to Manila to enroll in baking courses.

After which, she started a homebased cake business and occasionally teach baking to small groups. She got to have been invited to different cities around the Philippines to teach baking and cake decorating. Even though she was already teaching, she still attends classes and workshops both local and international to further enhance her skills. It was also around those time that chef was able to establish Mindanao Cake Decorating Society with some of her bakers’ friends.

Thru experience, it made her realize that baking has always been her passion and she has been so happy to have been in this industry for 11 years already. Chef Hannah is very happy to be part of LPU-Davao saying that “baking is her passion and teaching is her purpose”. It brings joy and satisfaction whenever she see’s students learning from her knowing that few years from now, they will be her colleagues.

As an educator, she always reminds her students that baking as well as in life, there will be times that you will not be able to meet your expectations, but it does not mean that you have failed, it is rather an opportunity to gain more knowledge and improve your skills.  She has always believed that finding your passion and pursuing it is always the best way to be happy because when you do something that you are passionate about work is not work anymore.
